Letters To Her Very Best Friend

In May 1936, after her mentor, Louis Lepée, was murdered, Edith Gassion, known as ‘la môme Piaf’, doesn’t many friends left. Jacques Bourgeat writes her first song and helps her meet music publishers. He will be for Edith a substitute father, a Pygmalion who talks to her about poetry, drama and Greek philosophers. He will be her guide, her teacher, her confident and even her confessor. “In her letters, she talked very little to me about her job, more about her worries.”
Until her death, they will exchange over 100 letters in which Piaf tells about her daily life: her men, her fears, her joys, her sorrows.
